Functions of the Respiratory System

The respiratory system is a very complex system, which helps keep one alive. The main parts of the respiratory system are the lungs, airways (bronchi and bronchioles), Windpipes (trachea), voice box (larynx), throat (pharynx), nose and mouth. The picture below is a model of the respiratory system. (Resources: Cleveland Clinic).

I have created a 3d model of the respiratory system. I will link it on this page.

Breathing

Breathing is the process that brings  oxygen in the air into your lungs and moves oxygen and through your body. Our lungs remove the oxygen and pass it through our bloodstream, where it's carried off to the tissues and organs that allow us to walk, talk, and move.
Our lungs also take carbon dioxide from our blood and release it into the air when we breathe out. (Source: Canadian Lung Association)
